PhD summary

The framework of the project is emerging networking technologies like software defined networks (SDNs), network function virtualization (NFV) and network slicing (NS). In this context, my research will focus on the evaluation of programable data planes (PDP) and its capacity to support innovative network functionalities in a dynamic and efficient way. In order to achieve the aforementioned objective, my work will divide in the following subtasks:

First, an evaluation of the State of the Art on programable data planes. Identification of architectures, protocols and processes involved. Next, the design of a methodology to develop new functionalities at data layer over a Protocol Independent Switch Architectures (PISA) platform based on programable data planes. Followed by the identification, analysis, and evaluation of relevant use cases for telecommunication operators in the deployment of advanced network elements. Finally, an integration of developed solutions with existing ones to ensure smooth transition of operational networks will take place at the end of the project.

Biography

I received my BSc degree (2010) in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering from ESPOL Polytechnic University in Guayaquil, Ecuador, and a MSc degree (2017) in Telecommunication Engineering from Polytechnic University of Milan (POLIMI) in Milan, Italy. I have experience as a researcher and lecturer at ESPOL Polytechnic University (2018 - 2022). While working at ESPOL, my research on the influence of hydrometeors in wireless propagation allowed me to publish three peered review articles on international conferences such as the IEEE Latin-American Conference on Communications (LATINCOM) and the IEEE-APS Topical Conference on Antennas and Propagation in Wireless Communications (IEEE-APWC). Currently, I am pursuing my PhD studies in Telematic System Engineering at Technical University of Madrid (UPM) and working as an Early-Stage Researcher (ESR) with Telefónica on the “Design of novel network functions, architectures and protocols based on programmable data planes” research line, as a part of the SDGine project, a European Union's Horizon 2020 program from the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA). My research interests include wireless networks, programmable data planes (PDP) and 5G/6G applications.
